About German Radio

Each and every day more than 50 million people in Germany listen to the radio at an average of more than 250 minutes. The German radio market is completely different from the rest of the European market, like Italy, France, Schweden or the UK. There is no nationwide radio in Germany to lead the German radio market. Each of the 16 federal states has a system of public and private radio stations. The majority of radio stations in Germany are youth, mainstream and hot AC radio stations. There are currently 112 radio stations counting for the weekly airplay charts which are collected and published by MusicTrace every Friday. 75 of them are relevant for mainstream, dance/EDM or pop music. There is only a handful of radio stations in Germany focused on rock or urban music. But sometimes they are the opinion leaders for possible breakthrough radio careers.
